5500 bus stops of Madrid equipped with #NFC by @Connecthings #smartcity

After having proved a great success for 18 months, reaching over 100,000 users, the “Smart Madrid” project lead by Connecthings is extended to the whole network of 5500 transport stops in the Spanish capital.

In April 2013, Ana Botella, Mayor of Madrid, inaugurated the first 500 shelters equipped with NFC and QR code technologies that allow travelers to access real-time arrivals of next buses with their smartphones, as well as information on tourist sites nearby.

In 2015, Madrid transport network becomes Spain’s largest network equipped with contactless technologies, with 5,500 street furnitures.

“Smart Madrid» is adapted to people with physical and visual disabilities through more than a year of collaboration between our R&D team, CIDAT (Spanish Center for R&D and Accessible Applications) of ONCE (National Organization for Blind Spanish people) and EMT Madrid (Municipal Transport Authority of Madrid).

The development of the ”Smart Madrid” project realized by the Municipal Transport Authority of Madrid in collaboration with the consortium (UTE) formed by Cemusa and JCDecaux, is based on the platform of Connecthings.

With this new success, Connecthings demonstrates its expertise and know-how in designing innovative usages to turn the city into a more practical space, thanks to solutions that meet growing support and use from citizens.
