New contactless services in Barcelona for the World Swimming Championships

Until 4 August, the World Swimming Championships are taking place in Barcelona, the mobile and contactless world capital. On this occasion, the organizing committee and Barcelona City Council have called on Connecthings’ know-how to liven up the event through the deployment of over 600 NFC tags.

From those access points spread across the competitions sites and the city, it will be possible to easily access the digital world of the event: latest results, download of the application, agenda, etc…

In Barcelona, Connecthings continues to bridge the real and the digital world, and once again, demonstrates the power of the mobile media when it is offered in the right place at the right time. This has been the second event with an international dimension (after the Mobile World Congress) tagged by Connecthings in Barcelona, which thereby confirms its smart city status. The implemented service is supported by Connecthings AdTag™ platform.

20 June 2013 | Connecthings named Best Product for « Intelligent Transport for the City and its people”

This prize was presented as part of the SmartGrids France 2013 competition during the Innovative City Convention which took place on the 18th and 19th of June in Nice.

The jury was made up of nine French competitive clusters specialised in the fields of energy and ICT.

On that occasion, Arnaud Chevailler, Sales Director at Connecthings, said: “The whole team of Connecthings is glad to receive this prestigious awards, that recognizes our NFC-based innovative solution of real-time information, which was first launched in Nice in 2010 and continues to achieve great success among passengers everywhere it is implemented, as for instance in Strasbourg, Caen or Madrid where it is part of a global approach on smart cities”.

17 June 2013 | In Nice, French Riviera, *Connecthings equips more than 200 bike sharing stations with NFC tags

Along the same line as the bus and tram stops, the monuments and museums in the city, the Vélo Bleu bike sharing stations in Nice are now equipped with NFC tags.
The « Nice Essentiel » (Essential Nice) mobile service gathers all the useful information for cyclists on an interactive mapping, provides a 4-language description of all the points of interest along the journey, and invites Nice citizens and visitors to discover the city thanks to itineraries to follow by bicycle.
Users will also find on their Smartphone the display of the cycling lanes, bike parks, bike repair stores, water supply points, public toilets, and even leisure areas fitted out for enjoying a good lunch break!

This new mobile service is integrated within the transversal mobile service that has been implemented by Connecthings and live since 2010. As a consequence, it allows users to know with one click where the closest Vélo Bleu bike stations are, and to check their real time availability from the 2,000 NFC tags displayed on bus and tram stops, or from the monuments of the Vieux Nice. In return, from the bike stations users can access real time passenger information of the closest bus and tram stops.

On the occasion of the launch of this new service, Laetitia Gazel Anthoine, CEO and founder of Connecthings said: “The Bike mobile service in Nice is a good illustration of what our platform brings to our clients: to easily and quickly deploy brand new NFC mobile services on their territory and link them to the existing context-based and cross-cutting information, so with one click users carry on accessing high value added information with the best possible user experience.”

29 April 2013 | Madrid Smart City with *Connecthings #NFC

On Wednesday 17th April, Madrid City Council unveiled the « Smart Madrid » scheme, a bunch of contactless mobile services developed by *Connecthings. In partnership with Madrid’s Municipal Transport Corporation (Empresa Municipal de Transportes, or EMT) 500 bus stops in the city centre have been equipped with the well-known Connecthings “four leaf clover” sticker , allowing today with any Smartphone to access the next buses’ arrivals and multimedia information about the tourist sites nearby via the NFC technology.

“With Smart Madrid, the Spanish capital takes an important step forward to become a smart city reference”, Ana Botella, Mayor of Madrid, puts forward during the unveiling taking place at the EMT Madrid Headquarters.

Madrid has been the first European capital in launching a package of contactless mobile services of such a large scale. This project is part of a strong will of the Spanish capital to embrace new technologies that truly improve the experience of the city and raise the quality of services dedicated to citizens and visitors. Building on *Connecthings solutions and its numerous European experiences, Madrid is provided with a solution that has been widely used, and can start thinking today of shaping its future mobile services.

The Smart Madrid project is a relevant answer to a major challenge that local authorities from Madrid wanted to address: how to be permanently adapted to the continuously changing Smartphone world? To get direct access from street furniture to useful and relevant information for each user is the key of a success with the general public and of long-lasting uses”, Louis-Alban Batard-Dupré, Business Development Manager in Spain for *Connecthings, says.

Laetitia Gazel Anthoine, CEO and Founder, commented: “We are very proud to support Madrid in its ambition to build its smart city. It has been the third deployment of our solutions here in Spain, after Malaga and Barcelona, which shows that the major European cities have high confidence in Connecthings ability to meet their innovation needs around the NFC, both on a technical reliability level and on our capacity to adapt to local specificities.”

29 March 2013 | Connecthings nominated to the Contactless & Mobile Awards

Connecthings is proud to have been shortlisted in two categories for the Contactless & Mobile Awards: this challenge launched by Contactless Intelligence rewards the best mobile contactless and NFC services and uses developed and set up by companies, in ten categories.

Connecthings had submitted two showcases, and both have been selected:

  • The smart mailbox implementation (“Mobulles Paris”), consisting in the deployment of NFC tags and QR Codes on 50 smart mailboxes in the centre of Paris giving access to real-time and contextualized  information of different kinds: postal information and services of course, but also transport information and local news and events. This showcase is running for the Public Domain Award.
  • The large-scale deployment of contactless/NFC mobile services, through the implementation of more than 25,000 NFC tags and QR Codes powered by Connecthings in the UK, France and Spain, and durably deployed in the cities, in the functional and diverse areas of Transport and Mobility, Cultural and Touristic heritage, and Street life. Connecthings has been recognized for its expertise in creating NFC eco-systems that make cities smarter and improve people’s mobility. These citywide projects are shortlisted for the Contactless / NFC Eco-System Award.

The ceremony will take place in London in April, 26th, after one day of conferences and working groups organized by Contactless Intelligence, where a lot of companies concerned about the NFC technology will be present. Connecthings will be the chairman of one of the working groups dedicated to DIY tagging systems. The winner of each category will be announced by a jury composed of professionals of different areas (Transport, bank, retail…), with specific expectations of the NFC and contactless services developed by the companies.

Connecthings is pleased to see that the NFC and contactless mobile technologies embrace more than ever all the areas, and is strongly motivated for carrying on implementing contactless/NFC  mobile services that  improve people’s experiences in the cities.
