With its world premiere of ground-powered streetcars launched in 2003, Bordeaux Métropole established itself at the forefront of transport and transit innovations.
In 2014, Bordeaux Métropole initiated the roll-out of Connecthings’ agile and innovative solution to supplement its network of physical Traveler Info-Points. Connecthings’ “smart stickers” with NFC and QR code were tagged onto 3,500 public transport stops to enable travelers to access real-time schedules via their smartphone. TBM mobile service also allows travelers to consult real-time availability at nearby bike-sharing stations or disruptions to services.
“Many technical challenges had to be overcome to make this ambitious project a success: synchronization of databases, user-friendly design of the mobile service, roll-out of the smart stickers and above all meeting deadlines” stresses Jean-Marc Rouffet, Head of Equipment Systems & Transport Heritage Service, Bordeaux Métropole.
Connecthings’ “TBM real time” innovative solution was adopted massively by local travelers. Each year, over 3 million mobile connections have been carried out by more than 200,000 unique users.
