The Calvados Tourism Awards honored the best tourism initiatives of 2014 and rewarded tourist agencies for their actions in terms of animation and innovation.

“Caen, Summer 44” is a bilingual digital visit (FR / GB) - operated by Connecthings platform – accessible from any smartphone using QR Codes and NFC tags.

Placed throughout the historic heart of the city of Caen, this route takes visitors in 12 stages into the citizens’ lives during the Battle of Normandy, June 6th, the “D-Day” to July 19th, 1944. How did they secure supplies of food and daily consumer goods? How were organized emergencies and medical care? What were the means put in place to fight against fires after the destruction of the fire station?

The circuit can be walked in approximately 1h30. “Caen, Summer 44” consists of a rich iconography and presents archival records, photos and vintage videos, as well as 3D reconstructions of the former Town Hall of Caen and the University, destroyed in June and July 1944.

Congratulations to the City of Caen, to the Direction of Digital Innovation of Caen-la-Mer and to the Museum of Normandy for the trophy and for this memorable digital experience!
